San Francisco city attorney filed a federal trademark infringement lawsuit against the city of Oakland over the decision to add 'San Francisco Bay' to Oakland International Airport's official name.
Chiu stated, 'This new name will cause confusion and chaos for travelers, which will damage the travel industry for the entire region.'
The lawsuit includes a copy of the certificate of registration SFO received in 2012, citing confusion potential with Portugal's Azores Airlines already referring to OAK as 'San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport.'
