JC Penney is set to close multiple stores nationwide, including its Tanforan Mall location in San Bruno on May 25. The decision, announced amid ongoing restructuring after its 2020 bankruptcy filing, reflects declining foot traffic in mall locations. The company emphasized that while closure decisions are difficult, they occur due to expiring leases and market conditions, asserting that it retains nearly 650 stores across the country and an online shopping option. Other closures will affect locations in Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, New Hampshire, North Carolina, and West Virginia.
