San Francisco's Rec and Parks Department is contemplating the introduction of parking fees in Golden Gate Park to generate around $10 million annually to support essential services amid a significant budget deficit. The proposed parking charges, potentially up to $3 per hour, come in response to the city's need for financial resources, although some Rec and Parks Commission members express concern about further limiting access for drivers following previous initiatives that closed car access on roads like JFK Drive.
To do that, we need to better align the money we earn with the costs of what we deliver.
We already closed roads in Golden Gate Park, and now we're going to charge people. It just seems like we're driving cars out.
