Oakland's Mayor-elect Barbara Lee has appointed Miya Saika Chen as her chief of staff, a significant first step for her incoming administration. With two decades of diverse government experience, Saika Chen is recognized for her ability to collaborate effectively across city departments. Previously serving as chief of staff for former Council President Nikki Fortunato Bas, she has been instrumental in local initiatives such as the Ceasefire program and has a proven track record in generating substantial funding. Saika Chen expresses eagerness to work towards Lee's vision of unifying Oakland's diverse communities.
Lee, who will be sworn in on May 20, said in a press release that Saika Chen has 20 years of experience in local, state, and federal government and understands "how to work across City departments to get things done."
Her extensive community network and relationship within Oakland's strong base of nonprofits, small business and community stakeholders will help ensure a broad cross section of the community joining us for the hard work ahead.
I'm excited to support our Mayor-elect's vision of unifying our community as One Oakland across our diverse constituencies, neighborhoods, Labor and Business to secure the results Oaklanders deserve.
Saika Chen previously worked as chief of staff to former Council President Nikki Fortunato Bas, who is now on the Alameda County Board of Supervisors.
