A proposal for 780 affordable homes near Topgolf in North San Jose has sparked debate among community members and city officials. Advocates argue that the project by Cloud Apartments would address local housing shortages, while critics, including local resident Richard Santos, worry it will endanger community green space and worsen traffic conditions. The project may use California's builder's remedy to bypass local zoning regulations, prompting District 4 Councilmember David Cohen to call for greater community involvement in the planning process to ensure residents' concerns are considered.
This will not be a complimentary welcome to our laid-back community. During heavy traffic, 49er games and concerts, this bumper-to-bumper traffic cuts through the Alviso community.
I have encouraged the developers of the project to engage in robust community engagement. They are attempting to invoke state laws that allow them to bypass city zoning.
