Hidden from sight: New analysis shows half of local ICE arrests happened behind closed doors
"A new analysis reveals that over 1,000 ICE arrests took place in and around San Francisco, with at least half occurring at routine immigration appointments inside private ICE field offices."
"The data shows that 539 arrests happened at immigration appointments, while 193 arrests occurred in the community, often in public spaces or near homes and workplaces."
"Gunther's analysis provides unprecedented detail about the locations of ICE arrests in the San Francisco area, which were previously understood only on a broader, regional level."
Between January 20 and October 15, 2025, over 1,000 ICE arrests were recorded in the San Francisco area. Analysis indicates that at least half of these arrests occurred during routine immigration appointments at private ICE field offices, away from public view. Specifically, there were 539 arrests at these appointments, 193 in the community, and 147 outside immigration courtrooms. This analysis by Joseph Gunther provides detailed insights into the locations and nature of these arrests, which were previously understood only on a broader regional level.
