Held Over, a vintage store on San Francisco’s Haight Street, will close its doors on Saturday, May 30. The store’s lone register drew long lines on Friday afternoon, with items advertised at $9.00. The inventory of military surplus, dresses, and single-stitch tees thinned as customers bought remaining ties, jackets, and blouses. Manager KaiAnne VanHorne joined in March and said the store had only four staff members. The shop, founded in 1976, is the last remaining Retro City Fashions store after Mission Thrift closed in 2018 and Mars Mercantile closed in 2024. VanHorne learned of the closure days earlier from Cynthia Anderson-Werwie, Werwie’s widow, and cited a lease dispute as the cause. Anderson-Werwie planned to keep the store open through Sunday, but no employees were scheduled for that day.
