Federal judge won't stop San Mateo Co. supervisors from firing sheriff, at least for now
Briefly

A federal judge in San Francisco has indicated he will not block the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors from pursuing the removal of Sheriff Christina Corpus. Her legal team sought an injunction claiming the process set by Measure A is unconstitutional. The judge, Vince Chhabria, stated that he is unwilling to intervene at this stage, citing that Corpus has not yet faced irreparable harm. He mentioned that if inappropriate procedures led to her termination, he could potentially reinstate her and award back pay if the case is won in the future.
Michael Kelly, a long-time Corpus supporter who came to watch the hearing, said, "You know, the constitutionality of it, with them being the judge, jury, and potential executioner, they've already admitted their bias. They've already said, two of them have said that, you know, she needs to be removed. She's guilty. This is supposed to be, you know, based on constitutional law and fairness."
Dan Stegink wrote the opposition statement included in the Measure A voter pamphlet, adding, "And I've always maintained that this was illegal and would not pass a legal test in court. And it's kind of obvious, at some point, this is going to be stopped."
