Dead adult female gray whale washes up along bay near Vallejo
Briefly

A dead adult female gray whale measuring 39 feet has been found off Mare Island in Vallejo, California. This discovery marks at least the seventh dead whale reported along Bay Area beaches in 2023. The whale, which may have been struck by a vessel, was difficult to access as it was located under a pier near the Phillips 66 Refinery. Due to its advanced state of decomposition, a necropsy will not be performed, and the whale will be left to decompose naturally.
According to the California Academy of Sciences, the 39-foot-whale was spotted underneath a pier near the Phillips 66 Refinery in Rodeo making access difficult.
SKY7 was overhead Wednesday evening. This is at least the seventh dead whale that has washed up along a Bay Area beach this year.
