Day 72 of the 16th St. Plaza crackdown: Street smell has gotten so bad, residents can't open windows
Briefly

Residents of Julian Avenue reported worsening conditions related to crime and pollution, preventing fresh air and safety in their community. Although city efforts, including increased police presence, have improved visibility and cleanliness, crime and drug issues remain. Local business owners like Aracely express concerns about decreased clientele due to the area’s reputation. Community members call for more sanitary resources, particularly for the unhoused population, emphasizing the need for a long-term solution to these challenges.
The smell has gotten so bad, I can't open my window. The situation at 16th and Mission is up and down. It comes in waves.
Kids live here and they have to see crime, drug use, prostitution. The police presence has improved the area, but I'd like for more sanitary resources for the unhoused.
When it was just the police bus, nothing really happened. The clients see people doing drugs right in front of the door and they don't want to come in.
The illegal vending is gone, they cleaned the area, and you can actually walk through it now.
