A house fire in South San Francisco severely damaged the home of Nelly Santana, who had previously featured in an ABC7 News story for her community support. Although her family was not home at the time, their dog, Simba, was found alive but in need of urgent medical care. The community has rallied to support Santana and her family, who are now staying at her mother's house. The biggest challenge for Santana has been explaining the loss of their home and possessions to her young children.
Once I got into the office, I got a call from the neighbors telling me my house was on fire.
Everyone was very excited because we found the dog, he was still alive, but he's not doing well at this time.
As we all know, it's very costly with the oxygen and the X-rays and all the medication, so we're doing our best to just treat him at home with an inhaler.
We sat them down and told them that our house and all the toys and things that they had in there were burned but they will be very, very blessed to be alive.
