"Street violence took my daughter. Something she didn't have (anything) to do with. Like, how does this happen? In a park, she is supposed to be safe here. My daughter was at a playground, she wasn't here to fight. Now I have to live without my daughter for the rest of my life. That was my baby."
"The Second Amendment, I understand all that, having rights to guns. But we've got get the guns of the streets. We just got to do better in educating our children about guns, and the damage that it does. Such as what just happened."
"Just how she brightened up a room with her smile. Her laugh was contagious. I love my baby,"
"Stop the gun violence. It's stupid. We just have to do better as a community,"
Fifteen-year-old Jayda Mabrey was killed Friday evening in a shooting near Golden Gate and Laguna in San Francisco. Two other juveniles suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Family members and classmates held a vigil at the intersection with pink balloons, candles and flowers. Jayda's mother said Jayda was an innocent bystander at a playground and expressed grief at losing her daughter. Community members described Jayda as strong, loyal, and college-bound. Pastor Jeffery Brannen called for removing guns from the streets and better education for children about gun dangers. The vigil ended with a balloon release as a final farewell.
