Caltrain seeks to increase ridership with new $1 youth fare
Briefly

A Caltrain spokesperson noted that individuals who start utilizing public transit in their youth are significantly more inclined to continue using public transit as adults. This strategy aims to boost long-term ridership for Caltrain.
Caltrain Executive Director Michelle Bouchard emphasized that the new pricing allows young people greater autonomy: 'Now young people can get up and down the Peninsula with ease for less than the cost of a boba tea.'
The board's decision results from a successful previous promotion, where the $1 youth fare drove a 43% increase in Clipper youth ticket sales compared to the previous year.
Caltrain's average weekday ridership saw a 19% increase in June compared to June 2023, indicating a growing return of riders to the transit system for both work and leisure.
