Burning Man opened Sunday, July 24, and immediately faced windstorms, thunder, lightning, and rain that hampered access and movement on the Playa. Wind and dust storms, along with rain, led to entrance closures that lasted over 19 hours for some attendees. Video from David Miles Jr. showed the Playa beginning to dry after several volatile days of weather. Longtime participants emphasized that harsh desert conditions are part of the event experience. Attendees who waited in nearby Reno prepared to head in once conditions cleared, and many anticipated improving weather for the remainder of the week.
If you can see that black area over there, that was a part of the NOVA Festival, and they were going to do a whole big thing, we were going to be a part of it, but the weather blew it down,
I think the thing that people really need to understand is that this is what Burning Man is, okay. It's harsh. It's in a harsh environment,
I think we're tired of waiting, and so we're just gonna go for it,
The rest of the week looks like it's gonna be absolutely fantastic.
