"Many in the Bay Area started their festivities early. Families welcomed the new year in the morning with a countdown and balloon drop at Hiller Aviation Museum in San Carlos. "It was really fun when all the balloons came down, and everyone was running around catching them," said Kian Goyal, 8, who lives in San Mateo. "My favorite thing was the 3D snowflake," said Ivy Cervenka, 6, who lives in San Mateo. Families enjoyed music, dancing and face painting at this daytime New Year's Eve party. Even better: it was inside on a rainy day."
"Meanwhile, on the Embarcadero in San Francisco, law enforcement was positioned and the setup was underway for the big fireworks show. The pyrotechnics company confirmed the display will proceed rain or shine. Families held daytime New Year's celebrations at venues like Hiller Aviation Museum and Chabot Space and Science Center with countdowns, balloon drops, music, dancing and face painting, using indoor spaces because of rain. Children and parents enjoyed event features such as a 3D snowflake and balloon drops. Viewers are encouraged to arrive early to watch from the Ferry Building and Embarcadero.
