The Fillmore Merchants Association announced the cancellation of the 2025 Fillmore Jazz Festival due to financial constraints following a challenging year. The festival, renowned as the largest free jazz festival on the West Coast, typically attracts over 50,000 visitors. Executive director Patti Mangan expressed the heartbreak of this decision, noting the significant debt and reliance on donations that have decreased since the pandemic. Organizers are now focusing on fundraising efforts to revive the festival for 2026, similar to the recent cancellations of other San Francisco street festivals.
"We are forced to face the sad reality that we cannot afford to pull off a 12 block street festival in 2025," Patti Mangan, executive director of Fillmore Merchants Association, stated, highlighting the financial struggles faced.
The Fillmore Jazz Festival began in 1986 and has grown to be a neighborhood tradition, showcasing numerous artists over the years while offering a vibrant culture and community gathering.
