The recently unveiled 13-foot mural at San Francisco Fire headquarters, designed by Academy of Art University students, celebrates the city's emergency medical services. Featuring vibrant imagery of a fire truck and the Golden Gate Bridge, the mural emphasizes the crucial role of EMS workers. Student artist Zoe Arnold expressed her desire to depict a mutual appreciation between responders and the community. Funded by various firefighter associations, this project not only showcases student talent but also aligns with the upcoming EMS Week, honoring the dedication of EMTs and paramedics.
The main thing that stuck out to me when creating this was hands that help. I wanted to portray the helping hands that are in this community.
They help us. We help them. And I wanted to make sure that they felt appreciated when looking at this work.
The mural was funded in part by SFFD members and their affinity groups, honoring the legacy of emergency medical responders in San Francisco.
The mural was a semester-long project to give students real-world experience in client collaboration and mural creation.
