73-year-old burger chain opens first SF outpost at Fisherman's Wharf
"In an effort to draw more tourists to the wharf, which saw numerous business closures during the pandemic, the city is demolishing historic seafood restaurant Alioto's to make way for a new public plaza. A wave of new restaurants is also opening on Jefferson Street, including Taco Bell Cantina, Raising Cane's, Everett & Jones barbecue, South American eatery Chasca Rio and the revival of historic seafood restaurant Castagnola's."
"Nation's, which moved its headquarters from El Cerrito to Texas last year, is known for its burgers, pies and all-day breakfast. It was founded in San Pablo in 1952 and now has dozens of locations across Northern California. The Fisherman's Wharf restaurant is the first Nation's in San Francisco, although the chain has nearby locations in Oakland, Alameda, Berkeley, Daly City, South San Francisco and Pacifica."
Nation's Giant Hamburgers opened at Fisherman's Wharf in the space formerly occupied by Madame Tussauds, which closed in August 2024 after ten years; the location previously housed another wax museum since 1963. The new Nation's held a ribbon-cutting with Mayor Daniel Lurie expected to speak. Nation's CEO Adam Smith called the opening a decades-long dream and thanked the mayor's 'recovery push.' The city is demolishing historic Alioto's to build a public plaza and multiple new restaurants are opening on Jefferson Street. Nation's moved its headquarters from El Cerrito to Texas, was founded in San Pablo in 1952, and this is its first San Francisco location.
