Every year, city officials and survivors gather around Lotta's Fountain at 5:12 am on April 18th to mark the exact time of the Great Quake, making it a crucial meeting point and SF's oldest surviving monument.
After the ceremony at Lotta's Fountain, a procession heads to the golden fire hydrant at 20th and Church streets for the annual re-painting event. This fire hydrant was instrumental in saving the south side of the Mission District post-earthquake.
