Yes, You Can Fly Without Real ID After May 7-but It Won't Be Easy
Briefly

Starting in less than two days, U.S. air travelers must present a Real ID compliant identification to pass through airport security. Those lacking a Real ID or valid alternatives, like passports or military IDs, risk being unable to board flights. Applicants for Real IDs need to provide additional documents such as birth certificates. The new IDs enhance security features to combat fraud. Due to high demand, many state offices are full, urging travelers to seek appointments in neighboring areas. TSA advises those without compliant IDs to factor in extra time for screening.
These IDs help keep our country safe, because they prevent fraud and they enhance security, United States Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem said in a social media video.
We are actively encouraging passengers who do not have either a state-issued REAL ID or another acceptable form of ID to give themselves plenty of time for additional screening at TSA checkpoints.
