The United States is bracing for two consecutive winter storms, Freya and Garnett, affecting the Midwest and Northwest. Winter Storm Freya, starting Wednesday, will bring severe weather from Oklahoma to the Central Appalachians. Subsequently, Winter Storm Garnett will bring additional snow and ice starting Thursday, reaching from the Northern Plains to the Northeast. Homeowners are advised to prepare by maintaining indoor temperatures at 65°F or higher to prevent frozen pipes and related damage, as ice storms can significantly harm homes.
"Maintaining your home's temperature at a minimum of 65 degrees [Fahrenheit] or higher is crucial when facing low temperatures and winter storms," Brenda Bynarowicz advises.
"To avoid frozen pipes, protect outdoor plumbing fixtures by disconnecting any hoses, shutting off the water to external sources and insulating pipes exposed to frigid air," expert advice suggests.
