Senators reintroduce rural housing bill as bipartisan support rises
Briefly

Between 2010 and 2020, rural U.S. housing units increased by only 1.7%, with nearly half of states experiencing declines. To combat the housing crisis, South Dakota officials advocate for the Rural Housing Service Reform Act. This act seeks to streamline federal housing programs, preserve affordable housing, and enhance homeownership opportunities for families in need. Support for the bill has grown, now with nine bipartisan co-sponsors, indicating a collaborative approach to addressing rural housing shortages and improving living conditions for local communities.
"Improving homeownership opportunities, particularly in rural areas, is critical for the wellbeing of South Dakota families," said Rounds.
"The reintroduction of the bill indicates that Democrats and Republicans are aligned in trying to find solutions," Smith said.
"This legislation is the direct result of bipartisan hearings and conversations with stakeholders who helped identify ways we can make federal rural housing programs work better for people struggling to find a safe, affordable place to live," Smith said.
Rounds and Smith did not have any co-sponsors... this time, however, the bill boasts nine co-sponsors across both parties.
