The Waymap navigation app has launched officially across Washington D.C.'s entire transit network, allowing visually impaired users to navigate all rail and bus stops confidently. Developed after a two-year pilot involving extensive mapping, this app leverages motion sensors instead of conventional GPS, making it unique and inclusive. It aspires to bridge the accessibility gap for the disability community while encouraging others to engage with shared transport modes. Founders emphasize the importance of inclusive design and are driven by stakeholder feedback in their mission.
We started out very clearly with an objective of inclusive design, which means 'nothing about us without us.' The demand from the stakeholders has been really encouraging.
Waymap charges itself as the first and only indoor mapping service that requires no external infrastructure to work, ensuring true mobility independence for riders.
