The Upper Great Highway first closed as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic in April 2020, and the passage of Prop. K means it will remain closed seven days a week.
Nearly every precinct west of Twin Peaks voted against the measure, with Outer Richmond voters opposing it, with precincts voting 70-83% against.
Supervisor Joel Engardio acknowledged the disparity in voting, stating, 'As the representative to 80,000 residents, it's impossible for everyone to agree with my actions 100% of the time.'
Engardio noted that many Sunset residents felt upset because 'the Great Highway's future was determined by people who do not live on the westside'.
