California Governor Gavin Newsom has initiated a program where he sends cellphones to executives of the top 100 California companies. This initiative aims to foster closer communication between the governor and business leaders, allowing for direct dialogue to discuss potential challenges and ideas for improving the business climate in the state. Funded by the California Protocol Foundation and not taxpayer money, the program aims to listen and adapt to the evolving needs of California's business community while maintaining compliance with public disclosure laws.
It's an alternative way to engage with the business engine of California and to listen to their ideas, said Bob Salladay, a communications advisor to Newsom.
The cellphones, which were first reported by KCRA on Monday, were paid for by the California Protocol Foundation, a nonprofit funded by donations.
Many people in and around Newsom's political and business orbits have his cellphone number. It's not unusual for the governor to receive and respond to texts from a wide host of senders.
The governor's office believes this initiative will help identify roadblocks and gather insights on how to strengthen California's business environment.
