Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene admitted she had not read the One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB) and expressed strong opposition to a section restricting state regulation of artificial intelligence for 10 years. Despite voting for the bill backed by Trump, she stated she would have voted against it had she known about this provision. Greene highlighted concerns over the lack of foresight regarding AI's capabilities and asserted that this move violates state rights, calling for its removal before Senate approval and further House consideration.
Full transparency, I did not know about this section on pages 278-279 of the OBBB that strips states of the right to make laws or regulate AI for 10 years.
We have no idea what AI will be capable of in the next 10 years and giving it free rein and tying states hands is potentially dangerous.
