Larry Buendorf, Secret Service Agent Who Saved President Ford, Dies at 87
Briefly

Larry Buendorf, the Secret Service agent who thwarted an assassination attempt on President Gerald R. Ford in 1975 by disarming Lynette 'Squeaky' Fromme, has died at the age of 87. Buendorf's quick action prevented a major tragedy outside the Senator Hotel in Sacramento, California, when he spotted Fromme's gun. Following his government service, he became the chief security officer for the U.S. Olympic Committee until his retirement in 2018. His actions on that fateful day in history were filled with immediate peril and he reflected on the chaos surrounding the event in later interviews.
"When I yelled out 'Gun!', I popped that .45 out of her hand. I got a hold of her fingers, and she's screaming - the crowd is screaming..."
"I don't have a vest on, I don't know where the next shot is coming from, and I don't think she's alone."
