Former colleague says rumors of Eric Swalwell sexual misconduct swirled for years
"Rumors about that were going on for many, many years, and you can't act individually on rumors, but certainly, when you have a swirl of rumors like this, it raises the question: Why wasn't there action taken?"
"Just shock and sad -- felt for the accusers who absolutely need to be believed, and shocked and saddened for everybody involved. Just deeply disturbing allegations."
Eric Swalwell resigned from Congress following numerous sexual misconduct allegations from at least six women. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is investigating these claims. Lonna Drewes has publicly accused Swalwell of assaulting her in 2018. Prior to his resignation, Swalwell withdrew from the California governor race. He stated that the allegations are false but felt it was unfair to his constituents to remain in Congress while distracted. A special election has been scheduled for August 18 to fill his vacated seat.
