The California Transportation Commission has approved funding allocations for bike and pedestrian projects, with a total of around $170 million allocated across various programs this year.
Despite the high scores achieved by many applicants, funding remains competitive, and stringent criteria were established to prioritize projects based on readiness and potential for encouraging biking and walking.
While some projects received full funding, others, like Stockton's Bicycle-Pedestrian Connectivity Project, were left unfunded due to limited resources and high demand.
State leaders were urged to increase the Active Transportation Program's funding, as many highly-scored projects could not be funded this year despite their readiness.
