Alan Wong to be named third District 4 supervisor of 2025
""I'm stepping up to be District 4 supervisor because I believe the Sunset, and San Francisco, can thrive again," he said in a statement on Sunday. "This is my home. This community invested in me, and I'm ready to invest everything back into it.""
""as a matter of conscience.""
Mayor Daniel Lurie will appoint Alan Wong as the District 4 supervisor, making him the third occupant since October after Joel Engardio's recall and Beya Alcaraz's one-week tenure. Wong is a Sunset native who served as a legislative aide to former supervisor Gordon Mar and was elected to the City College board of trustees in 2020 and 2024 with labor and progressive backing. He is 38, has 15 years of military experience, and is a first lieutenant in the California National Guard who said he would ask to be spared from any deployment to his city as a matter of conscience. Wong recently moved back into District 4 and did not vote in the Engardio recall because he did not live in the district in September. The recall followed opposition to Engardio's Proposition K, which transformed the Upper Great Highway into an oceanfront park, and the mayor's earlier unexpected one-week appointment of Alcaraz drew scrutiny over allegations about her former pet store.
