Affordable LGBTQ+ senior housing in San Francisco's Castro denied funding
Briefly

Despite being labeled as 'a great project,' an affordable housing initiative for LGBTQ+ seniors in San Francisco was denied funding due to high competition and limited resources.
Amar Cid from Community Investments and Planning stated that the competitive nature of this year's funding round led to many impactful projects being overlooked. 'We were oversubscribed by more than 2X the available funding,' he noted.
Mercy Housing California expressed determination to seek further funding, stating, 'While we just missed out on the AHSC funding this year, we will apply again in early 2025.' Their commitment reflects ongoing efforts for LGBTQ+ housing.
Cid encouraged Mercy Housing to resubmit their proposal, noting, 'Overall, 1939 Market Street is a great project.' This highlights the project's potential impact on the community and importance of continued funding efforts.
