"I was born and raised right here in the Sunset,"
"We need leadership that restores trust."
"The status quo is unacceptable."
"A 'compromise' means no park,"
Alan Wong was sworn in as District 4 Supervisor on the steps of Abraham Lincoln High. Wong said he was born and raised in the Sunset and called for leadership that restores trust. He said he voted against Proposition K, which authorized closing the middle section of the Great Highway to create Sunset Dunes Park, and said the status quo is unacceptable while advocating a "compromise." Friends of Sunset Dunes' Lucas Lux objected, saying a "compromise" would mean no park because concrete skate ramps and installations cannot simply be removed. Prop. K passed 55 to 45 percent in November 2024. Former Supervisor Joel Engardio was recalled over his support for the park; an appointee resigned days after being named. District 4 has lacked representation, and recall supporters and some supervisors have sought signatures from four supervisors to trigger a new citywide election.
