A Republican plan to sell off millions of acres of public lands is no more - for now
Briefly

A proposal to sell up to 3.3 million acres of public land in Western states was removed from a Republican tax bill as it did not meet Senate rules. Senator Mike Lee aimed to address housing shortages with this measure, but the Senate parliamentarian ruled it extraneous. Although the decision faced bipartisan backlash, Lee expressed determination to reformulate and advance the proposal, including new limitations. Environmentalists viewed this ruling as a victory, while preparing for further discussions on public land preservation.
"This is a significant win for public lands," said Jennifer Rokala, executive director for the Center for Western Priorities, highlighting the importance of the Senate parliamentarian's decision to reject the proposal.
"Yes, the Byrd Rule limits what can go in the reconciliation bill, but I’m doing everything I can to support President Trump and move this forward," stated Senator Mike Lee, signaling his intent to continue pushing for land sales despite opposition.
