Chancellor Rachel Reeves has unveiled plans to invest £5 billion into housing next year as part of a larger strategy to tackle the UK's persistent housing challenges, from low supply to inadequate living conditions for tenants.
Reeves stated, "Our government is making housing a national priority. Today, we are delivering £5bn to increase the supply of affordable and quality homes across the country."
Issues such as damp, inadequate heating, and poor maintenance have continued to affect tenants across the UK, creating both health risks and financial strain.
The Affordable Homes Programme will see an increased budget of £3.1 billion, thanks to a £500 million boost, aiming to stimulate construction and increase the supply of quality homes.
