In Santa Rosa, a wildfire preparedness expo educated hundreds of homeowners on ways to safeguard their properties against potential wildfires. With fire conditions worsening in the Bay Area, local emergency services emphasized removing combustibles and preparing emergency plans. Attendees like Elizabeth Ramirez, who has experienced the aftermath of wildfires firsthand, received tools like emergency go bags. As the fire marshal pointed out, changing environmental conditions signify that the start of wildfire season, officially set for June 2, is a critical reminder for proactive safety measures.
"Making sure combustibles have been removed, paying attention to weather and taking responsible for keeping your home safe," said Joel Holland from Wildfire Services Group.
"It was horrible. It was something that we don't want to go through again," Ramirez said.
"We've seen conditions change locally from lush green hills to brown dry hills," said Santa Rosa Fire Marshal Paul Lowenthal.
"Santa Rosa is one of the agencies that does declare the start of fire season, primarily because it's tied to ordinances."
