SFUSD Avoids Teacher Layoffs Thanks to Early Retirements
Briefly

In a positive turn for the San Francisco Unified School District amid ongoing budget deficits, at least 100 teachers' jobs have been preserved due to other teachers opting for early retirement packages. Originally, 837 layoff notices were issued to address a $113.8 million budget shortfall, but this number has now decreased significantly. Superintendent Maria Su noted the relief for teachers facing pink slips, while acknowledging ongoing uncertainties for many in the district ahead. Despite some closure, the district still faces critical financial challenges as enrollment declines persist.
Thanks to the overwhelming interest in our retirement incentive, it's a huge relief that teachers will not have to worry about pink slips,” Superintendent Maria Su said.
The real number of teacher jobs saved isn't entirely clear... it would seem that 104 teaching positions have been saved thanks to early retirements.
