The Santa Clara City Council has unanimously voted to simplify the Wade Brummal Scholarship program, making it more accessible for low-income youth. "My goal is that any kid that wants to play should be able to play, but the kid whose parents can pay, they should be paying a reasonable amount," Councilmember Suds Jain said.
Walke stated, "I'm in favor of the final result, it has clear guidelines and procedures that everybody can follow," emphasizing the improvements to the scholarship program.
The scholarship program was established in 2015 and has about $235,000 in its fund, aimed at supporting low-income families with sports-related fees.
Parks and Recreation Commissioner Vikas Gupta noted the importance of the scholarship program and its ongoing adjustments to better serve the community.
