Renowned pianist starts concert series for young performers in Saratoga
Briefly

Jon Nakamatsu, a noted pianist, is hosting a recital on May 17 at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church to showcase his students from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Nakamatsu believes that performance opportunities are essential for young pianists to evolve from students to performers. Meanwhile, the Village Preschool in Saratoga, operated by the Saratoga Federated Church for over 60 years, is closing due to financial difficulties and the challenge of competing with public schools. A farewell celebration is planned for May 22 with activities and entertainment.
"For budding pianists, the most important thing is for them to have performance opportunities to hone their craft," says Nakamatsu. "It kind of transforms them into something more than just students."
"We have come to the realization that this type of program is not meeting our community's needs," said a statement on the church's website regarding the Village Preschool's closure. "It has become too hard to compete with universal (transitional kindergarten) in the public schools."
