Menlo-Atherton's girls basketball team showcased a strong performance in their 56-37 victory over Evergreen Valley in the Central Coast Section Division I semifinal. Starting with a 12-0 run, M-A maintained control through effective defense and offensive runs, ultimately outscoring Evergreen Valley 17-3 in crucial moments. Led by point guard Eve Amram, who contributed 13 points alongside teammate Avary Sheldon, M-A's strategic implementation of a 1-3-1 zone defense was pivotal. They now prepare to face top seed Los Gatos for the championship, reflecting on their successful transition to this defense as a game changer.
That was our goal from the start of the season. Now we're one game away.
We wanted them taking outside shots. They're a really quick team, really fast, they can get to the basket.
This is the first year we've gone to the 1-3-1 and it's been a game changer.
We struggled with our offense and that put us in a hole early in the game.
