Less than 4% of dentists are Black. This South Florida family wants to change that
Briefly

Dr. Roger Phanord and his twin sons, Dr. Kyle and Dr. Kevin Phanord, practice together at their North Miami dental clinic, Phanord & Associates. Roger's early experience as a patient in a makeshift dental setting inspired his career in dentistry. With 12,000 active patients, they are part of a small fraction of Black dentists in America, and they are committed to increasing that number through mentorship programs to diversify the field. The clinic not only serves its community but also nurtures future Black dental professionals.
Roger Phanord recalls, 'I thought that was an amazing experience. And ever since, I wanted to do dentistry.' His early experience fueled his lifelong passion for the field.
Phanord & Associates serves 12,000 active patients. Roger notes, 'That's an uncommonly high number for a general practice,' highlighting their success and commitment to patient care.
The Phanord family emphasizes mentorship, with Dr. Roger stating, 'Through mentorship, we seek to increase the number of Black dentists and help diversify our industry'.
Reflecting on their clinic's mission, Roger Phanord expressed, 'I made sure that it was a large enough facility where all the Black dentists would graduate and have a place to come in and work.'
