Kohberger's defense will argue evidence was planted in Idaho student murders case, prosecutors say
Briefly

In the upcoming murder trial of Bryan Kohberger, his defense team intends to argue that the DNA found on a knife sheath at the crime scene does not necessarily prove his presence there. Instead, they suggest that the sheath could have been planted by the actual perpetrator. Prosecutors have outlined their case, asserting they matched DNA from the sheath to Kohberger. The defense is also contesting prior investigative techniques, though a judge recently upheld their admissibility.
Instead of challenging the conclusion that the DNA on the knife sheath belonged to Defendant, the defense's expert disclosures reveal that the defense plans to argue the DNA on the knife sheath does not prove Defendant was ever at the crime scene and the knife sheath itself could have been planted by the real perpetrator.
Kohberger is charged with four counts of murder in the deaths of Ethan Chapin, Xana Kernodle, Madison Mogen and Kaylee Goncalves, students who were killed in the early morning of Nov. 13, 2022.
