Hayward superintendent resigns; district won't say why he was placed on administrative leave
Briefly

Hayward Unified School District Superintendent Jason Reimann resigned effective May 3, shortly after being placed on administrative leave by the Board of Education to investigate a separate incident. The Board did not disclose specifics but noted that his previous DUI arrest was not part of the investigation's focus. Reimann, who joined HUSD in July 2023 and had been recognized for his contributions to education, left the position after less than two years, prompting the Board's interim superintendent to reassume her role.
Reimann's resignation, effective May 3, comes less than two years after he assumed the district's top position, leaving more questions than answers.
The Board of Education did not disclose the impetus for its investigation, but said Reimann's DUI and criminal speeding charges were not its focus.
When Reimann joined HUSD in July 2023, he had recently received accolades for educational excellence, including the 2022 Marcus Foster Educator of the Year Award.
Board President Peter Bufete lauded Reimann's background and vision, noting his proven commitment to equity and successful academic program development.
