James Johnston of Shannon, Co Clare, died peacefully after an illness, surrounded by family. He was the father of Aoife Johnston, who died in 2022 from sepsis after a long wait for treatment. An inquest in 2024 ruled her death a medical misadventure. James campaigned for justice for Aoife, and his brother Mark described him as deeply devoted to his family. The loss of Aoife profoundly affected James, carrying a deep sense of grief and injustice that defined his life.
