DOGE abruptly cut a program for teens with disabilities. This student is 'devastated'
Briefly

Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has halted a range of federal contracts, including the Charting My Path program, aimed at aiding students with disabilities. While the program faced criticism for its cost and implementation, many believe it could have greatly supported students transitioning from high school. Educators and families express sorrow over its abrupt cancellation, highlighting the essential support these programs provide. The concerns raised reflect a broader discourse on the implications of cutting such crucial initiatives, especially for disadvantaged youth.
One of these programs, cancelled on Feb. 10, was called Charting My Path for Future Success. It was a research-based effort to help students with disabilities make the sometimes difficult transition from high school into college or the world of work and self-sufficiency.
Snowballing federal contract cancellations by DOGE has raised concerns about the collateral damage, as seen in the abrupt termination of programs like Charting My Path that aided vulnerable students.
Madi Biedermann, a spokesperson for the U.S. Education Department, noted the program was one with 'questionable implementation' and claimed that its funds weren't going directly to the kids.
Families and educators stress that programs like Charting My Path could have provided essential support to help millions of vulnerable teens transition more effectively into adult life.
