The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors has approved the initial steps to remove Sheriff Christina Corpus, who faces allegations of having an inappropriate relationship with an employee and fostering a retaliatory work environment. Despite her denial of the allegations, the board's decision comes after an independent report, which Corpus's attorney claims cannot be accessed. Following Measure A's approval, the board is set to serve a notice of intent and allow for a pre-removal process, facilitated by a third-party oversight to ensure fairness.
"Today is really establishing the guidelines, the framework for policies and protocols," said David Canepa, President of the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors.
"To this day, they still will not release to us the Cordell report. We've had to sue to get the report... Why did they ask for the report?" said Thomas Mazzucco, Attorney for Christina Corpus.
"What was previously proposed was to have a representative from the county executive's office, as you can imagine, sort of over overseeing this..." Canepa said.
"This is the first step (of) many steps," Canepa said.
