On April 5, in San Bernardino, officers fatally shot a man who was allegedly threatening his juvenile son with a knife. Reports of the incident came in around 5:32 p.m., indicating that the man was chasing the boy with the weapon. Upon arrival, officers commanded the man to drop the knife, but he resisted arrest and engaged in aggressive actions despite attempts to de-escalate the situation with a Taser and bean bag rounds. The man was shot after he swung the knife at officers and attempted to flee back home. He later died at a hospital.
Officers found the armed man... but he refused to do so... The man swung the knife and ran back toward the home when officers shot at him.
Police used a Taser and bean bag rounds, but said the man continued to ignore commands and actively resisted all de-escalation measures.
