Airplane-themed playground honoring Berkeley pilot could land in Thousand Oaks
Briefly

A small plot at Thousand Oaks Tot Park may be transformed into an airplane-themed play structure dedicated to Col. Michael Seltzer, an Air Force pilot who died of cancer at 43. Led by his friend Peter Kaes, the fundraising effort aims for $75,000 to improve the park, which holds cherished childhood memories for Seltzer. A UC Berkeley graduate, Seltzer's military career included deployment in Iraq and Afghanistan, and he was believed to be exposed to toxic substances that contributed to his illness. His legacy is supported by Berkeley council members and his family.
"Peter Kaes, who is leading the effort, hopes to commemorate his childhood friend by adding a new section to the park, where they spent many afternoons as kids."
"COL. Seltzer died in October of lung and brain cancer, believed by his family to be related to exposure to toxic burn pits while deployed."
