'Serene': Here's what happened in the first hours of Outside Lands
Briefly

The Outside Lands festival began with tranquil scenes as fog lifted in Golden Gate Park. Festival-goers and vendors described the first hour as serene, with minimal wind and excitement brewing. Food booths prepared for customers, and sounds from the main stage created an electrifying atmosphere. A highlight was a surprise sound check by headliner Doja Cat, which thrilled many attendees. The atmosphere transitioned from calm to chaotic as crowds anticipated an exciting night ahead.
Around the time the gates opened, Doja Cat, who is headlining the festival on Friday night, did a sound check of almost her entire setlist.
Desiree Ong, a Peninsula resident who works at the booth for Indonesian Fried Noodles, described the first hour of the festival as "serene." Occasional customers stopped by for the heavy plates of chicken satay, potstickers and egg rolls.
Tommy Gaerlan, who works alongside Ong, said he enjoys looking at the festival landscape before hundreds of thousands of people stomp on the ground. "It's beautiful. You see the grass, like so much of the grass."
A speaker at the Lands End main stage brought the area to life, and, of course, one of the first songs to play on the loudspeaker was "Good Luck, Babe!" by Chappell Roan.
