The opening work is a ravishing performance of Wagner's Prelude to Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg. Composer Saarthak Shankavaram leads the orchestra in a world premiere titled Leela. Two winners from last season's Young Artists' Competition, Elspeth Luu and Claire Kim, perform famous orchestral cello and flute works by Elgar and Borne. The concert closes with Borodin's exciting Polovtsian Dances. The season opener is Sunday, Nov 30 at 5pm at Mexican Heritage Plaza, San Jose, with tickets $5–$15.
