Rihanna has made a spectacular return to music with her song "Friend of Mine," the first new release in three years. The track is part of the upcoming "Smurfs" movie, where she also voices the character Smurfette. Teased via social media, the song showcases Rihanna's lyrical prowess and marks a significant moment in her career following her previous release, "Lift Me Up" in 2022. With a star-studded cast including Kurt Russell and John Goodman, Rihanna plays a pivotal role in the film and has also taken on producer duties, adding to her multifaceted career.
"I tried to get the Papa Smurf role, but it didn't work out," the "Umbrella" singer joked in 2023 when the film was announced.
"Ooh, I think the word here is 'déjà -vu' / Just met you tonight, but you feel like a friend of mine," she sings.
Rihanna will star in "Smurfs" as Smurfette alongside a star-studded cast and is also a producer on the film.
"New Smurfs trailer featuring 'Friend of Mine' from the Smurfs soundtrack out Friday," the superstar singer wrote on May 14.
